NOVEMBER IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY

THE THIRTY – THIRD WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME

Dear parishioners,

‘I tell you solemnly, before this generation has passed away all these things will have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away’ From this Sunday’s gospel, Mark 13: 24 -32.

The one sure thing we can hold on to are these words of Jesus, because he is the Word of God, who dwelt among us, full of grace and truth, whose words were spoken to a cruel world which crucified him. It was his words which were spoken to catholic soldiers who turned to their Lord and received his sacramental grace before going into battle. In the devastation caused by human sin and evil all around them, the words of Jesus were truth, goodness and light. In the devastation that human sin is now inflicting on our planet, the words of Jesus also hold true for us. Let us turn to him by coming to his altar at holy mass, for he is here for us.

On this Remembrance Sunday, let us also ask our Lord to have mercy on us for the terrible deeds done by humanity, to one another in war and to prosperity of future generations on earth through our greed and the desire for immediate riches by the few, regardless of consequences. We also give thanks to God for the sacrifice of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and all support services who have given their lives in the service of their country and we pray that through God’s mercy, they may rest in peace.

There will be a solemn requiem mass at 11.00 a.m. this Sunday to remember all those who have died in our wars and there is a collection basket near the entrance and exit for the British Legion.

MESSAGE FROM TONY REGARDING SUNDAY COFFEE MORNING ON 7th NOVEMBER

Thanks to all for the wonderful support for our recent Sunday coffee morning supporting HCPT. The cake makers, the bacon sandwiches, our singer, the staff on the day and of course yourselves. It was great to see people gathering to chat, something that seems to have disappeared over Covid times. Money is still coming in but so far we have profited £480. That’s two thirds of the cost of taking a pilgrim to Lourdes.

Thanks again

Tony

NOVEMBER PRAYER FOR HOLY SOULS

In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters. In this life you embraced them with your tender love; deliver them now from every evil and bid them eternal rest. The old order has passed away: welcome them into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, but fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

God bless, Fr. Jonathon
