ST THOMAS MORE CHURCH, BEXLEYHEATH.

THE TWENTY- SEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

OCTOBER IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY

Dear parishioners,

WORLD FOOD CRISIS APPEAL. CAFOD FAMILY FAST DAY.

Millions of families are facing a food crisis that could be the worst in living memory. Your donations can help CAFOD’s local experts to provide emergency food supplies to families in the worst affected countries in East Africa and support communities around the world working hard to put food on the table. Please give today or start a monthly gift to CAFOD. You can make your donations the old- fashioned way with an envelope, available at the entrances to the church and return them next Sunday or go to:

This Sunday we welcome back to St Thomas More Eileen Hayes who will update us on the work of CAFOD, encourage us in our support for this great catholic charity and thank you for your kind donations and prayers. CAFOD would love you to join their volunteer team and you are warmly invited to contact the local CAFOD centre on southwark@cafod.org.uk. If you have any questions or want to know more about volunteering, please do chat to Eileen after Mass.

CAFOD FAMILY FAST DAY: Friday 7th October 2022

HOW TO MARK THE MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY.

1. Join us and say your DAILY ROSARY at St Thomas More (check newsletter) or at home. Dr Taylor Marshall says in his YouTube broadcasts, ‘If you don’t say the Rosary you're not in the team’.

2. Join the 37TH ANNUAL NATIONAL ROSARY CRUSADE of REPARATION on Saturday 8th October 2022. Assemble by 1.45 p.m. outside Westminster Cathedral and join the procession of Reparation for Sins against the Immaculate Heart to the London Oratory, Brompton Road for Benediction, ending at about 5.15 p.m.

3. Join us at St. Thomas More for The PARISH ROSARY & BENEDICTION on Sunday 23rd October at 4.00 p.m.

Do you find the rosary difficult?

St. Therese of the child Jesus in "The story of a soul" wrote about her struggle saying the rosary:

"For a long time I was desolate about my lack of devotion which distressed me for I love the Blessed Virgin so much that it should be easy for me to recite prayers in her honour that are so pleasing to her. Now I am less desolate: I think that the Queen of Heaven, since she is my mother, must see my good will and be satisfied with it.."

If you find a whole rosary difficult, aim to say a decade and offer it up. You may find once you've said one decade, you won't want to stop, because Our Lady will be with you and you'll think, now I've started, I might as well go the end and stay with her. And if you don't, you've done a decade, you've prayed, and that is good. As St Therese says 'she must see my good will and be satisfied with it'.

Why is the First Saturdays Devotion Extremely Urgent in Our Times?

  • Statistics show that we are living in a time of a great apostasy, or rather falling away from the Church.

  • Satan is attempting to destroy the Church and the world we live in.

  • There are countless injustices being done right now, such as destruction of the family.

  • The greatest injustices are those done to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

  • The sins offending the Hearts of Jesus and Mary are the greatest obstacles to the flow of grace and mercy into the world.

  • This flow of grace and mercy is necessary to bring about goodness and peace in the world.

  • The foremost way to make reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is to practice and spread the First Saturdays devotion.

  • The First Saturdays devotion is an essential part of the plan to preserve the Catholic Faith on earth.

  • Sr. Lucia: “War or Peace of the world depends upon the practice of this devotion…” (March 19, 1939)

  • Our Lady at Fatima: “If you do what I tell you, many souls will be saved, there will be peace” (July 13, 1917).

OCTOBER PRAYER TO OUR LADY, QUEEN OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY.

(This prayer was written by the holy priest, St. Jean Marie Vianney)

O most holy Virgin, Mary, who evermore stands before the Most Holy Trinity, and to whom it is granted at all times to pray for us to your most beloved Son; pray for me in all my necessities; help me, protect me, and obtain for me the pardon of all my sins. Help me especially at my last hour; and when I can no longer give any sign of the use of reason, then encourage me, make the sign of the cross for me, have me sprinkled with holy water and fight for me against the enemy. Make in my name a profession of faith; assure me with the promise of my salvation, never let me despair of the mercy of God and help me to overcome the temptations of the evil one.

When I can no longer say: “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul,” I ask you to say it to me; when I can longer hear human words of consolation, comfort me. Leave me not before I have been judged, and if I have to atone for my sins in purgatory, pray for me earnestly; and lead my friends to pray for my speedy enjoyment of the blessed vision of God.

Lessen my sufferings, deliver me speedily, and lead my soul into heaven with you: that, united with all God’s chosen, I may there bless and praise my God - and you Mother Mary - for all eternity. Amen.

God bless,

Fr Jonathon
